A man who died Wednesday when he lost control of his sports car on state Highway 9 near Ben Lomond and crashed into an SUV was 31-year-old Michael Kelly, according to the Santa Cruz County coroner's office.
Kelly, of Boulder Creek, was driving his 2002 Pontiac Grand Am north on Highway 9 north of California Drive at about 6:40 a.m. when he lost control while turning on a curve in the road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The car spun into the southbound side of the highway and its passenger side collided with a 1990 GMC Suburban, CHP officials said.
Kelly died at the scene while the driver of the Suburban, a 38-year-old man from Boulder Creek, was not hurt, according to the CHP.
From a preliminary investigation, the CHP determined that speed, not alcohol or drugs, was a factor in the crash and the SUV driver was not arrested, CHP officials said. |
