CITY OF SUNNYVALE NAMES COMMUNITY AWARD WINNERS

Award presentations to be made at July 4 State of the City Celebration

The City of Sunnyvale has announced the winners of the annual Community Awards program. The Mayor and Councilmembers will honor the awardees at the City’s upcoming State of the City Celebration in Washington Park on July 4.

Award nominations were accepted from the community this spring and were reviewed by a panel of former Community Awards winners. This year’s awardees are: Dixie De Vore Larsen, Outstanding Community Volunteer; Kristine Ortega, Outstanding Contribution to the Arts; Bobby Soto, Outstanding Educator; Nela Veis of Promega Biosystems, Outstanding Environmental Achievement; Scott Sarsfield, OutstandingHigh School Senior; Fritz Stawitcke, Distinguished Resident of the Year (posthumously).

Mayor Melinda Hamilton will present the special Mayor’s Award of Excellence at the State of the City Celebration. By tradition, this award winner is not named until the July 4 ceremony.

Sunnyvale’s State of the City Celebration will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday, July 4 in Washington Park, located at 840 W. Washington Ave. In addition to the Community Awards presentations, the Mayor will deliver her State of the City address. Live music, kids’ activities and a $5 barbeque lunch will be offered. Many City departments will have informational displays. All community members are invited to attend this free event.
