The Fremont Union High School District’s board of trustees is set to have the same five members for at least the next couple of years.

Trustees Bill Wilson, Barbara Nunes and Hung Wei were sworn into office for an additional four years at a district board meeting on Oct. 9. The three long-serving members were up for re-election Nov. 4, but no challengers stepped up and the race was uncontested.

“For all three of us being unchallenged is a heartwarming affirmation that our board is doing a good job in representing our community to do the best we can for our students,” Wei said in a message to this paper. “We are honored and happy to continue serving FUHSD in the next four years in providing the best education and opportunities for our youth.”

Wilson added, “I believe the lack of challengers for the school board seats shows that our community thinks the Fremont Union High School District is on the right track. That is a testament to the work our teachers and staff do every day to make sure we provide an excellent education for all our students.”

The board oversees policy-making decisions for the district, which includes Cupertino, Monta Vista and Homestead high schools in Cupertino, Fremont High School in Sunnyvale and Lynbrook High School in San Jose.

Turnover is already quite rare on the board. Wilson is beginning his third term, Nunes her fourth and Wei her third. They can run again when their terms expire in 2018.

Trustee Nancy Newton is serving her seventh term, and the newest trustee, Jeff Moe, is serving his first term after winning a seat in 2012 following the retirement of Homer Tong. Both Newton and Moe can run again for re-election in 2016.

FUHSD board meetings are typically held the first and third Tuesday of the month in the board room of the district office, 589 W. Fremont Ave., in Sunnyvale.
