You may not have heard about the solar storms that are supposed to be coming in the next few years, possibly sooner. The storms are nothing new; the earth is bombarded with cosmic rays all the time. However, these storms are supposed to be more severe, and the resulting solar flares that hurtle toward the earth and its magnetic shield could wreak havoc on the electrical grid. The electromagnetic energy could also cause many of our everyday electronic gadgets to stop working.

If this were to happen, it could cause panic around the world. It could take a long time to get those electrical grids up and running. This means that you might not have access to the medical care that you need if there were an emergency. What can you do in times like these? The first thing you have to do is prepare, and you have to start doing it now. While the solar storms might not be as troublesome as some people predict, there is always some other disaster lurking just around the corner. Preparedness for all types of disaster is the key to being a survivor.

You need to have a large stockpile of medical supplies in your home. Make sure that you have bandages, sutures, gauze, common household medicines, inhalers for those who have asthma, and scissors. Take a course in first aid so you know at least the basics. If you have a serious medical condition that requires specific supplies, you need to make sure that you have plenty of them in stock at your home all of the time.

Other items in addition to the medical supplies are important as well. Water purifying tablets or drops will ensure that you can drink uncontaminated water. Canned food is a good idea as well. Basic survival gear is always a good idea. In the event of a solar storm, radios and basic communication may not work. However, you should still have a radio on hand for all of those other disasters that could come your way. The same thinking goes for flashlights.

Being prepared for any eventuality doesn't mean that you're paranoid; it simply means that you have the will and the way to survive. Stock up on the survival and medical supplies you need today so you don't regret not having them when tomorrow comes.
