SUNNYVALE — A man riding Caltrain was arrested after he allegedly assaulted a conductor who suspected him of not paying his fare Friday afternoon, the transit agency said.

The encounter occurred about 1:30 p.m. at the Lawrence station in Sunnyvale, said Caltrain spokeswoman Tasha Bartholomew. The conductor was not seriously injured and declined medical treatment, and the alleged assailant was arrested by transit police.

The northbound 151 train was delayed for about 30 minutes while investigators interviewed witnesses and arrested the man, who was expected to be booked later Friday in the Santa Clara County jail.
