SUNNYVALE — A 30-year-old San Jose woman died early Friday morning in a suspected DUI crash at the Lawrence Expressway offramp of northbound Highway 101, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The woman was one of four passengers riding in a Honda Accord that went off the left shoulder of the offramp and down an embankment, according to the CHP. The woman’s name is being withheld until the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office can notify her family.

The driver, Edwardo Jaime Jr., 34, of San Jose, was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter, according to the CHP. He suffered a moderate injury.

Two other passengers suffered moderate injuries and were taken to hospitals. The fourth passenger suffered a minor injury, according to the CHP.

The crash was reported at 1:56 a.m. The Accord took the exit at about 55 to 60 mph and the driver failed to navigate a few curves and went off the roadway.

Speed and alcohol played a factor in the rollover crash, according to the CHP.

The CHP initially reported that the car was being driven by the husband of the woman who died. CHP Officer Ross Lee has corrected that statement, saying the driver is not married to the woman who died.

“There was some confusion as they were trying to work the whole thing out,” Lee said.

None of the five people in the Honda was wearing seat belts, Lee said.
