AAUW hosts picnic and open house

The American Association of Women is hosting a picnic and open house on Sept. 6 at 11:30 a.m. at Raynor Park, 1565 Quail Ave., in Sunnyvale.

Members will share information about AAUW programs, including post-graduate scholarships/fellowships, national legal advocacy for women, local scholarships for Tech Trek Girls Science Camp at Stanford University and other activities.

All prospective and current members are invited.

Green Gardener training for landscapers

The Santa Clara Valley Green Gardener Training Program for environmentally sustainable gardening practices begins Sept. 10.

Professional landscape maintenance workers, landscape contractors and landscape designers are invited to the 10-week sessions, which begin Sept. 10 in English and Sept. 11 in Spanish. Classes take place from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Sunnyvale-Cupertino Adult Community Education (ACE) center, 591 W. Fremont Ave.

The registration fee is $120, but scholarships up to $60 are available for landscape maintenance professionals upon request.

Classes are offered through the Santa Clara Valley Urban Runoff Pollution Prevention Program. Training in environmentally sustainable gardening practices will include topics such as irrigation scheduling, plant placement, and less toxic pest management techniques.

‘Gypsy’ hits the stage on Sept. 12

The Sunnyvale Community Players is presenting the musical “Gypsy” from Sept. 12 through Oct. 5.

The show follows Gypsy Rose Lee’s rise to stardom, helped and hindered by her overbearing stage mother.
