JW House is hosting a hospitality week

JW House, an independent nonprofit located on the Santa Clara campus of Kaiser Permanente, is participating in the first nationwide Healthcare Hospitality Week.

On July 21, activities will revolve around outreach to patients and practitioners at local hospitals. July 22 will be the JW House Welcome Home Tour.

There will be a July 25 Drive-Thru Donation Drive, when volunteers will be collecting paper towels, napkins, toilet paper, brownie mix, lemonade mix and more in front of JW House. Visit jwhouse.org or call 408.246.2224.

Assemblyman recognizes local veteran

In honor of the California State Legislature’s Veterans Recognition Luncheon, Assemblyman Paul Fong (D-San Jose) recognized Glenn Fortin of Sunnyvale as the 28th Assembly District’s Veteran of the Year.

Fortin served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve from 1975 to 1983, and then in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1983 to 1984. During his service, he was meritoriously promoted to sergeant.

After being discharged from service, Fortin served as a law enforcement officer for 25 years. He retired at the rank of captain in the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety in 2005. Fortin graduated from Sunnyvale High School in 1971 and attended De Anza College and San Jose State University.
