Sunnyvale visitors and locals of the Hindu faith can find the local Sunnyvale Hindu Temple on Persian Drive just off the 237 Southbay Freeway between Java Drive and Mathilda Avenue. This place of worship serves the needs of the local Hindu community and includes prayer ceremonies, blessings, idol immersion, Diwali pooja, and more. Sunnyvale Temple was founded in September of 1994 and offers two large open spaces in the “L” shaped building, which has been altered from its origins as a warehouse with new carpeting, wiring, and cosmetics. One of these rooms functions as the religious and spiritual space of the temple, while the other is a cultural hall with a stage that is used by the Sunnyvale Hindu temple but can also be rented out to other members of the community for their use. There is an ongoing project to raise enough money to build a traditional style temple in the same space, but as the costs will be so high, the temple is still in the fund collecting phase of the project.

Sunnyvale Temple is open from 10:00 in the morning until 9:00 PM every day, with Aarti religious rituals at 12:30 PM. Additional Aarti services are available during the winter at 8 PM each day, and during the summer at 8:30 PM. There is also a Vallabh Vasanjiand Group-sponsored Bhajans every Pooranmashi (full moon) from 8 to 10 PM. Additionally, pooja to many of the Hindu deities are performed regularly at Sunnyvale Hindu Temple. Hanuman pooja occurs Tuesdays at 8 PM, Lord Parthnath pooja occurs Thursdays at 7:30 PM, and Santoshi Ma Pooja occurs Fridays at 7 PM.

Mata Ka Jagran is a monthly religious festival of worshipping Durga, the mother goddess. This takes place at Sunnyvale Hindu Temple on the first Friday of each month at 9 PM. Special Gayatri Satsangand prayers are said every third Saturday at 4:30 PM, and Sai Bhajan takes place each last Sunday of the month at 6 PM.

Sunnyvale Temple is a thriving place of worship for the local Sunnyvale Hindu community and Hindu visitors to the city, and there’s always something going on here!
