Rooster T. Feathers
Considered an historic landmark, the Rooster T. Feathers Comedy Club in Sunnyvale has been a hotspot for amusement for over three decades. The club has hosted the comedic antics from a long line of famous celebrity comedians including Jerry Seinfeld and Robin Williams. Regular entertainers include national comedians often featured on an extended list of television shows comprised of Comedy Central, Showtime and The Tonight Show.
The club’s interior provides a cozy setting where guests enjoy food and beverage in addition to the show. The bar menu contains a wide selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages along with fast food favorites. Roosters frequently caters groups and special events.
Reservations are strongly recommended and the club suggests guests arrive at least 30 minutes before show time. Guests may pay for seats in advance. Rooster T. Feathers has no dress code but visitors must present a valid ID.
Budding stars are welcome to test comedic skills during the New Talent Showcase or Open Mic Night, frequently held on Wednesdays. The club also hosts comedy workshops, where beginning comics obtain helpful hints and professional advice on a variety of topics related to careers in stand-up.
Comedy Sportz
Located in San Jose, Comedy Sportz provides hilarious interactive entertainment for the entire family on Friday and Saturday evenings. Witness teams competing for audience approval while acting out situations suggested by audience members. Popular votes declare the winner. Audience participation often includes individuals chosen to join teams on stage. Late Friday nights include adult orientated improvisational comedy routines based on audience suggestions.
The Comedy Sports club also provides comedy workshops for enthusiastic students of all ages. Learn basic improv skills through various exercises and games. Highschoolers have the opportunity to participate in the Comedy Sportz High School League. Groups of students learn improv and have the chance to compete against other teams. Proceeds from ticket sales and promotional items based on competitive events automatically go to participating teams.
The Improv
The historic Improv evolved from humble beginnings during the 60s in New York. The now famous red brick wall associated with the club, emerged as a result of demolishing the interior décor. Not having the knowledge or financial capability to redecorate, the club owner, Budd Friedman, left the interior bare.
The club was originally established as a place for Broadway performers to meet and unwind following live performances. However, soon young comedians appeared on the stage to obtain feedback for stand-up routines. Comics rapidly replaced singers and the legend of the Improv was born.
The popularity of stand-up comedy persuaded Mr. Friedman to develop clubs in the West. Many famous celebrities got their start as employees of an Improv club. Daniel Baldwin and Jim Carrey were once door managers and Debra Winger was a waitress.
Today the internationally known Improv incorporates an intimate dining experience along with the opportunity to attend a live comedic performance. The club in San Jose provides beverages and meals before both shows. The list of celebrity comedians who have appeared at the Improv include Damon Wayans, Jon Lovitz and Rob Schneider. The club also hosts the talents of national comedians frequently seen on various television comedy shows.
