Sunnyvale is a great place to shop in Northern California. There are casual open air shopping centers, indoor malls, discount malls, trendy couture shopping boulevards, and local gems you won’t find anywhere else. All these are within the city or a short drive away.
Westfield Valley Fairis one of Northern California's largest enclosed shopping malls and the place to go shopping near Sunnyvale. The mall is located at I-880 and Stevens Creek Boulevard, Santa Clara. (408) 248-4451
Westfield Valley Fair has stores on several floors. A huge television in the center court that is 40 feet high keeps visitors updated on news and sports. Its specialty shops, elegant boutiques, major department stores, and a 450-seat food pavilion give you a one stop shop for clothing, shoes, electronics, home decor, perfumes and accessories. The food courts are clean and busy and offer a variety of fast foods. Booths in the aisle between the stores sell jewelry and accessories.
Some stores include Sugar, Apple store, Macy's, Banana Republic, Louis Vuitton, Tiffany's, Guess, Bebe, Forever 21, and Wet Seal. Parking can be challenging. Plan to go early as it may take a while to get a spot. It tends to be very busy on weekends.
Westfield Valley Fair is within walking distance from Santana Row where the restaurants are varied and excellent.
Santana Row is an upscale street spread over 3 blocks with shops, spas, several restaurants, a CineArts movie theatre, many special events year round, and a great place to visit with friends and watch the trendy crowd from the area. The median area is landscaped, generously shaded, and houses a few eateries such as Pinkberry, El Jardin, and Vintage Wine Bar. Santana Row is located at Stevens Creek Boulevard, at Winchester Boulevard, in San Jose, and just a long block away from Westfield Valley Fair if you want to go for more shopping.
Westgate Mall is a popular local shopping center with a large number of retail shops among which are Pac Sun, Any Mountain, Barnes & Noble, Target, Nordstrom Rack, Storables, Old Navy, Famous Footware, Luggage Center, Party City, Ross, Burlington Coat Factory, and Carter’s. There are some sit-down eateries in the mall in addition to fast foods including Chevy's and Max's. Johnny Rockets and Fresh Choice are on the Saratoga Avenue side of the mall.

Some shopping centers in Sunnyvale are primarily made up of restaurants and some shops. Within the city of Sunnyvale you’ll find several shopping centers grouped in city neighborhoods:
West El Camino Real Shopping Centers are Los Cedros , Cherry Chase Center, Bernardo Center , Cala Center , and Camino West Center. Another cluster of shopping areas on West El Camino are 939 W. El Camino Real, 901 – 919 W. El Camino Real, Market Centre, Civic Square, 398 W. El Camino Real, and Cherry Orchard.
East El Camino Real Shopping Centers are 111 – 161 E. El Camino , Toys R’ Us Plaza, Spaulding Square, 510 E. El Camino Plaza, Camino Oaks Plaza, Pavlina Plaza, Amber Circle, Green Trees Center , Hacienda Center, and 750 – 820 E. el Camino Real. The second group of shopping areas in East El Camino is: Wolfe Plaza, Caimino-Wolfe Center, 928 – 944 E. El Camino Real, Sunwest Plaza, El Camino Plaza, Henderson Center, Bell Plaza, and El Camino East Center.
Northeast Sunnyvale Shopping Centers have several places to shop at 610-620 E. Evelyn Ave., 465-475 N. Wolfe Rd., Fair Oaks Center, Lakewood Center, Tasman Square, and Lawrence Center.
Northwest Sunnyvale Shopping Centers include Moffett Plaza, Mary Avenue Plaza, Mary Manor Plaza, Sunnyvale Square, and Maude Plaza.
Southeast Sunnyvale Shopping Centers are Fremont Shopper, Fremont Corners, May Sun Plaza, Wolfe-Reed Center, Reed Plaza, and Wolfe-Reed Corner.
The Southwest Sunnyvale Shopping Centers have Westmoor Village, DeAnza Square, and Loehmann's Plaza.
A little further away
Great Mall is a large outlet and retail shopping mall in Milpitas just 12 miles from Sunnyvale. There are more than 200 stores including Last Call by Neiman Marcus, Coach Factory Store, Banana Republic, and much more. If you are looking for accessories, arts and crafts, gifts and cards, men and women’s fashion, children’s items, home décor and furnishings, jewelry, luggage, shoes, and gourmet foods, the Great Mall will have something for you.

Auto Row
Sunnyvale is also famous for its car sales. Auto Row has miles of car dealers. You can’t miss it with the numerous balloons, flags and wind kites flapping in the wind. If you are shopping for a car this is the place to visit. It may not be immediately a part of your buying plan but if it is this is a good place to start test driving some cars.
